the lights

my design class and i spent 5 hours walking through the alley ways and streets of melbourne - visiting galleries and gathering inspiration for our folios. i really enjoyed this because honestly, i was sick of googling inspiration or flicking my way through dozens of magazines and books hoping to come across something interesting. i spent the whole excursion taking photos (amateur photography of course) of things that inspired me - buildings, signs, posters, people, nature, even random objects. we visited around 6 galleries including some exhibitions by indie artists; Simon Hine and Guan Wei to name a few.one thing i was intrigued by were the lights...visiting stores and design spaces i came across the most amazing lights/lamps. weird i know, but they say so much about the designer and they take creativity to another level.

cigarette wing

In this work I used the contemporary technique of creating art through found objects. I found these butts in my back garden and constructed a wing from them. The wing (symbolism of innocence) crafted from cigarettes (symbolism of corruption in modern society). I also took the contemporary idea of irony into this non-traditional art form: could you imagine a creature like a bird, smoking a cigarette?
